"An outdoor concert of eight amazing musicians performing original songs inspired by part 1 of Trinidad Escobar's graphic memoir, Crushed."
Come to Peralta Hacienda porch to enjoy an afternoon concert of original songs inspired by Trinidad Escobar's Crushed. Crushed is a biomythography (a literary form coined and mastered by Audre Lorde) and the graphic memoir of cartoonist and poet Trinidad Escobar. It’s a family chronicle of main character Nicole’s journey to the Philippines to reunite with her biological family after years of separation due to forced adoption. Through Nicole’s story, we come to understand the devastating impacts of colonialism and imperialism, but also the power of using one’s voice to heal the trauma they cause. Plenty to inspire songs of all genres and styles.
Bushwick Book Club Oakland has gathered a stellar roster of musicians to perform eight original songs inspired by Escobar's work. This also includes a musical performance by Escobar's musical project Blue Ghosts! A wonderful event it will be. Please share far and wide to those who might be interested.
